The Manora Amdaar Niwas Redevelopment project, located in the heart of Mumbai, is a landmark initiative by the Government of Maharashtra to reimagine legislative housing for elected representatives in a vertical urban context. Designed by Shashi Prabhu & Associates, the redevelopment transforms the outdated MLA hostel complex into a modern, efficient, and dignified residential precinct that reflects the stature and responsibility of public office. 

The Manora Redevelopment stands as a powerful symbol of progressive governance and thoughtful urban renewal, redefining the housing standards for public representatives in India’s most dynamic metropolitan centre.

The new high-rise twin towers are designed to accommodate over 400 residential units, along with supporting amenities, parking, and administrative functions. The architectural language is clean, dignified, and contemporary— balancing functionality with a strong civic identity. The towers are organized around central service cores to maximize efficiency and privacy, while providing sweeping views of the city and Arabian Sea. 

Sustainability and security are integral to the design. The project incorporates high-performance glazing, energy-efficient systems, rainwater harvesting, and waste management solutions, aiming for long-term operational efficiency. Public and semi-public zones, including meeting rooms, dining areas, and landscaped terraces, foster community engagement while maintaining clear zones of privacy. 

The idea of resurrecting an iconic structure with a glorious history is intimidating. At the same time, we ensured that we made the indoor spaces even more memorable, by focusing on space planning and optimisation.

Manora Amdar Nivas is located at Nariman Point, the southern side of the Mumbai city. The location is such that the site gets a beautiful view of dock being connected to the Arabian sea. It is easily accessible from Vidhan Bhavan and Mantralaya. The hostel was constructed in 1980s and home to MLAs and associated government officials. The original structure had 4 towers of 14 storey each and could accommodate 140 legislatures with individual rooms.
