With Mumbai being home to a variety of functions like guest lectures, cultural events and technical events, the need was felt for a space which would be a multipurpose cultural destination. We were tasked with designing Ravindra Natya Mandir, a cultural centre catering to this requirement.
It includes a main auditorium that is air-conditioned and has a capacity of hosting 911 people, mainly for experimental theatre. A spacious art gallery regularly plays host to display of art, painting and photography. Additionally, there is an exhibition hall for arts & craft and rehearsal halls for classical music. There is also a large podium and cafeteria for street plays, folk art and other entertainment activities.
Ravindra Natya Mandir, with its aesthetic design and warm ambience has become a popular hub for cultural celebrations.
The idea behind designing this centre was simple- to create a fusion of spaces which will play the perfect host to a variety of events in various setups, without any adjustment needed by any particular art form or expression. We are glad that this has been achieved successfully at Ravindra Natya Mandir.
