The Willingdon Sports Club in Mumbai, a historic colonial-era institution, has been enhanced with a series of new sports facilities designed by Shashi Prabhu & Associates. The redevelopment thoughtfully integrates contemporary sports architecture within the club’s heritage setting, ensuring functionality while preserving its timeless character.

The expansion includes four international-standard badminton courts, six modular glass squash courts, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, a wellness spa with an indoor pool, and a modern golf clubhouse. These facilities are anchored above a 100-car underground parking structure, maximizing usable open space while minimizing visual impact on the lush 53-acre campus.

Architecturally, the new buildings adopt a classical facade with clean lines and lightweight structures, using ample glazing to create transparency and strong visual connections to the surrounding golf greens. Interiors emphasize natural light, high ceilings, and warm material palettes, creating inviting and energizing sports environments. Circulation spaces are efficiently planned to allow seamless movement between different activity zones. The design balances modern amenities with contextual sensitivity, retaining the charm of the original club while introducing facilities that meet international sporting standards. By blending heritage with contemporary functionality, the new sports buildings elevate the club’s identity as a premier urban sports and social destination.
