GOVANDI SHATABDI HOSPITAL

  • GOVANDI SHATABDI HOSPITAL

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) is one of the largest civic organizations in the country and yet, over 50% of people living in slums and low-cost housing, lack access to proper medical services. The MCGM runs 4 teaching hospitals, 5 specialised hospitals, 16 peripheral hospitals and numerous municipal maternity homes. Govandi Hospital is one of the 16 peripheral hospitals which cater to a population base of over 6,00,000 low income people.

In an effort to upgrade the healthcare throughout the city and especially in the low to middle income category, MCGM took an initiative to add 500 more beds to the existing Govandi Hospital by constructing a superspecialty hospital within the complex.

SPA has been hired as the Architect and Construction Managers for the project. Once completed, the new hospital will accommodate a state-of-the-art diagnostic department, 12 OT’s ICU and all other support areas. There is also a plan to add a medical college within the complex.

“The Govandi Hospital comes with unique challenges of catering to huge number of patients. This brings the focus on ensuring that various parts of the hospital are well-mapped for everyone to avoid bottle necks.”
